I saw the film The Greatest Showman, starring Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, and Michelle Williams, at the theater. It has a PG rating and takes place in New York. This film is loosely based on the life of P.T. Barnum, the man who founded Barnum & Bailey Circus, which later merged with Ringling Bros.
P.T. Barnum is struggling and needs to find a way to make money to give his wife a “magical life”. He comes up with the idea of the circus, showing off several people viewed as “freaks” to the public. The circus becomes a success, but not everyone likes his show. These critics make him the center of a lot of controversy. He keeps trying harder and harder to be on top, but how much will Mr. Barnum sacrifice for his show?
This film has many unique songs that are fun to listen to, both due to the outstanding singing performances and the memorable melodies. The imagery leaps off the screen but is still visually realistic. The story is really well told and the performances are very strong. This movie really does have a lot to offer to a wide audience. I didn’t expect to like this movie that much, but it was much better than I anticipated.
If you want to have an enjoyable time watching an inspirational movie, I heavily recommend this one, and give it an 8/10.
